Wrap-Up 2011 and Results
With the weekend over so is the 20th Bowen Family Fishing Classic and Wet Weekend for 2011!
Many ladies featured at the weigh in and went home with many of the great prizes on offer (refer to results attached). But the greatest catch of the day was the top class entertainment and beautiful Bowen weather that once again proved that Bowen IS the Climate Capital of Australia and The Gem of the Coral Coast!
Families were kept entertained both on and off the stage. Adam Harvey headlined the open air on stage "Classic Legends" line up of the weekends' entertainment and he was a great hit with all ages. Reports to hand have the crowd as happy and well behaved for the 20th XXXX Beach Party held at Bowen's front beach - Bowen's Free Entertainment of the year.
The kids enjoyed numerous activities from beach/bush craft, sandcastles, beach soccer, and the "fling a fish" competition and not forgetting the "classic lolly drop" thanks to Dwyer aviation - to name a few.
The old saying "build it and they will come" springs to mind when the committee again saw record crowds attending the Sunday afternoon prize presentations under the 22 tents, to find out if they had won a host of great prizes both highest weight and secret weights and the random Lucky draws by Montes Reef Resort, Delacey Retravsion, Hamilton Island and Centrepoint Traders of Bowen.
But the ultimate prize package was a lucky draw out of the barrel and went to Jenny Salter of Nebo who took delivery of the $34500 SPORTS FISHING CENTRE CONSOLE Finished in graphite grey and white, fitted out with all accessories by Tropical Trailerboats and a fold down bimini canopy by Mobile Boat Canopies complimented the versatile fishing rig powered by a 75HP HONDA outboard. The package was on offer with the help of Honda Marine, Tropical Trailerboats, Blue Fin Boats, Mobile Boat Canopies, Sea-link Trailers, Humminbird, Super Charge Batteries, and the Classic Crew.
The Junior Prize - THE BLUE FIN 3.45 "TREKKER" V-BOW PUNT also finished in graphite grey, is an ideal car topper or fishing platform at 65kg in weight Powered by the HONDA 2.3HP OUTBOARD - The Trekker worth $4000 was won by Troy from Kirwan,Townsville.
With the fish that anglers donated being filleted and packed as we went to print by Bowen Fisherman’s Seafood Co, the benefits continue to flow from this event as the fish fillets are donated to the local Meals On Wheels organizations in Bowen and Collinsville.
The Classic crew would like to also thank the dedicated team of volunteers who work the whole weekend setting up and running the event because without them an event of this size would not get off the ground and hence the donations to local and regional charities would not be possible. National, Regional and Local Businesses who donate the host of prizes on offer along with the Classic Crew would like to thank everyone for their support for 2011 and hope that a good time was had by all.
